The Impact
S&P Dow Jones Indices are used as the basis of investment products and to benchmark portfolio performance. They underpin leading ETFs, derivatives, structured products, OTC instruments and index funds, and are widely adopted as reference benchmarks for institutional portfolios. This role helps ensure that S&P DJI sustainability benchmarks remain relevant, transparent and commercially successful as investor demand evolves based on emerging global trends and innovation throughout global markets.
The Team
The Global Equities and Thematics Index Product Management team oversees a diverse set of index products, including global benchmarks, thematic indices, and sustainability indices. Coverage includes indices such as:
- Global core benchmarks, including the S&P World Index, S&P Global BMI, S&P Global 1200, as well as regional indices, and size, sector, and style segments.
- Sustainability benchmarks, including a range of solutions spanning screened, scored & screened, tilted, target, and thematic implementations. Some of these include the S&P World Scored & Screened Index, S&P Carbon Efficient Indices, S&P World Climate Resilience Tilted, S&P Paris Aligned & Climate Transition Indices and Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices.
- Thematic benchmarks include taxonomy-based, ML/NLP-based, and specialist-data-based solutions such as the S&P Atlas Thematics, S&P Global Clean Energy, S&P Global Natural Resources, S&P Global Infrastructure and S&P Kensho New Economies Indices.
The Role
The Senior Analyst will focus primarily on Sustainability Product Management within the Global Equities and Thematics Indices product management team, while also having opportunities to contribute to broader global core and thematic initiatives. The role combines analytical work with market insight and cross functional collaboration.
The successful candidate will work with senior product managers to support existing sustainability and related thematic benchmarks, help shape new index solutions for asset managers, and asset owners, among additional client types.
Key elements include analyzing ESG and climate data, exploring new and emerging data sources, supporting product design and enhancements, contributing to sales and marketing efforts, and helping ensure that sustainability indices remain aligned with client needs and regulatory developments.
Key Responsibilities
Product and Market Insight
- Conduct market and competitor analysis across sustainable investing, climate aligned strategies, and related thematic trends.
- Support the evaluation, enhancement and development of sustainability-related equity benchmarks.
- Work with ESG, climate, and emerging data sources to generate analysis, index back tests and client ready insights.
- Contribute to thought leadership and commercial materials, including presentations, blogs and white papers, highlighting S&P DJI sustainability benchmarks.
- Contribute to broader global core and thematic workstreams as business needs evolve
- Coordinate and execute on tasks required for timely and accurate launch of new indices, including documentation and approvals.
- Collaborate with Research and Design, Index Development, Marketing, Client Coverage and other partners to support global initiatives.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, provide input to backlogs and sprint planning, and adopt a continuous improvement mindset.
- Support senior product managers in client engagements, including preparation for and participation in meetings with asset owners and asset managers, and follow up on analytical and product related requests.
You will join a high performing, globally connected team working at the forefront of innovation in rules-based investing. The role offers exposure to a wide range of global, sustainability and thematic equity benchmarks, frequent interaction with institutional clients and colleagues in multiple functions, and a clear path to develop toward more senior product management responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required
- 3-5 years of experience in financial markets, ideally with exposure to sustainability, thematic, or related investment products across active or passive strategies.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, a research-driven mindset, with advanced Excel and comfort working with large ESG, climate, and other datasets.
- Understanding of index design, portfolio construction and sustainability methodologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to collaborate in cross functional and global teams.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as sustainability, climate science, finance, economics or another quantitative discipline, with demonstrated experience working with large datasets.
- Practical experience with Python, R or a similar programming language for data analysis.
- Knowledge of global equities markets, sustainable investment frameworks, and thematic megatrends shaping the modern investment world.
- Master's degree and/or progress toward the CFA charter or other relevant professional qualification.
- Additional business language skills.
