Description
An established Florida insurance defense, insurance regulatory, complex commercial litigation, and business litigation firm, with offices in Sunrise and Tallahassee, is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their First Party Property Insurance Defense team in the Sunrise office.
Applicants MUST have at least three (3) years of litigation experience that includes at least one (1) year of experience handling First Party Property Insurance Defense litigation matters
Responsibilities include handling matters on behalf of the firm’s clients including, but not limited to, researching legal issues, counseling clients, negotiating the resolution of legal disputes, and appearing in court on litigated matters to prosecute and defend clients’ interests.This position requires a high level of detail-orientation, as well as strong analytical, research, and writing skills, as follows:
Advising insurance company clients concerning business transactions, claims liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, or legal rights and obligations.
Interpreting laws, rulings and regulations in client matters.
Preparing legal documents on behalf of clients.
Researching cases by interviewing witnesses, reading depositions, reviewing evidence and speaking with the client to determine the best strategy for defense.
Evaluating findings and developing strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases.
Analyzing the probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents.
Attending all pretrial hearings on behalf of clients and advising clients following each hearing about the best strategies.
Presenting and summarizing cases to judges and juries; planning and presenting arguments and counter-arguments in a court of law.
Negotiating settlements.
Developing company policy and position on legal issues; researching, anticipating and guarding company against legal risks.
Guiding managers and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
Structuring, drafting and reviewing reports and other legal documents.
Performing administrative and managerial functions related to the practice of law.
In addition to base salary, the firm has an Additional Quarterly Compensation (AQC) program based upon billable hours whereby attorneys receive AQC when their billable hours meet or exceed 480 hours per quarter.
